Once upon a time the countless tribes of men wandering
around the land
the breadth of the broad-chested Earth.
And seeing this, Zeus took pity and in his complex heart
agreed to lighten the all-feeding Earth of men,
stirring up the great strife of the Trojan War,
so that the weight of death might empty it; and they
were killed at Troy, the heroes; and the plan of Zeus was
accomplished.
